Wristbands for General Nausea Problems
In order to protect itself from “invaders”, your body has mechanisms for expelling possibly harmful irritants and toxins. Sneezing will eject any foreign substances from your nose. Coughing will expel anything inhaled from your lungs or throat. Diarrhea will remove the contents of the intestines. And vomiting (which starts as nausea) will purge any harmful substances from the stomach.
Nausea is an uneasiness of the stomach (often called an “upset stomach” or “feeling sick to your stomach”) and can range from stomach queasiness to a strong urge to vomit. Sometimes, but not always, it can lead to vomiting. The symptoms of nausea can include – skin pallor, weakness, bodily warmth, headache, dizziness and/or drowsiness, in addition to the stomach distress.
In addition to the four major categories – Motion Sickness, Morning Sickness, Cancer Treatment Nausea, and Post-Surgery Nausea – there are numerous other ways that a person can become nauseous. And there are many other things that will cause nausea and possibly vomiting. These fall under the category of “General Nausea”.
BioBands ™ can help you relieve nausea from these causes as well.
Details
An amazing variety of stimuli can trigger general nausea (and possibly vomiting):
- Exposure to toxic chemicals
- “Stomach Viruses” (known medically as Gastroenteritis)
- Food Poisoning (a bacterial infection)
- Food Allergies
- Overindulgence in food or drink
- Toxins in your blood – including Alcohol, Nicotine, and some Antibiotics
- Certain smells or odors
- Side-effects of prescription medication
- Headaches (especially migraines)
- Unsettling sights, smells, or thoughts
- Strong, Continual Pain
- Emotional Stress
- Fear, Dread, Anticipation (Anxiety)
- Disgusting tastes, smells, or memories
Some of these triggers (the first group) are the result of physical stimuli and your body’s biological defense mechanism. Others (the second group) have a more psychological or emotional origin.

The Physiology
General Nausea is the result of neurological “signaling” back and forth between the stomach (GI Tract) and the Brain. In the brain, the Chemoreceptor Trigger Zone, located in the Medulla (lower brainstem), is responsible for monitoring the bloodstream and the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for signs of foreign toxins that might be harmful to the body. To protect your body from harm, the Chemoreceptor Trigger Zone (CTZ) can send signals to the Vomiting Center of the brain (also located in the Medulla). -- If these signals persist, the Vomiting Center will send sickness-inducing signals through the Vagus Nerve to the stomach.
In the physical causes (group one), the CTZ is triggered by bacteria or viruses irritating the stomach lining, or by something your body has inhaled or ingested that is detected in the blood or cerebrospinal fluid as a possible toxin. And over-eating, resulting in too much food in your stomach, can irritate the stomach wall sending trigger signals to the CTZ.
In the case of emotional and psychological causes (fear, dread, disgust, anxiety), the Chemoreceptor Trigger Zone is by-passed altogether and the higher brain centers (controlling emotions and memories) stimulate and trigger the Vomiting Center directly.
